One of my favorite Audacity features is the ability to record internal computer audio "silently." This allows you to record whatever is playing on your PC—like a stream, webinar, or soundtrack—without picking up any room noise, talking, or background chatter.
Here is how to set up the Device Toolbar to do it:
Host: Set to Windows WASAPI.
Recording Device: Choose your active playback device with (loopback) at the end (e.g.,
Headphone (Realtek(R) Audio) (loopback)).Recording Channels: Select 2 (Stereo) Recording Channels.
Playback Device: Choose your normal output (e.g.,
Headphone (Realtek(R) Audio)).
Pro Tip: Plug in your headphones to check the audio level whenever you like, or leave them on your desk to let Audacity record quietly in the background while you focus on other tasks!
