OMG! I forgot my MacBook Air login password because I rarely use that computer. Anyway, I did the following instructions, and everything is back to normal.
Note: your computer must be linked to an Apple ID, because it is that Apple ID password that would allow you to reset your MacBook password.
Shut down your Mac completely.
Press and hold the power button until you see “Loading startup options.”
Click Options > Continue to enter macOS Recovery.
If there are multiple users, select the one with the Apple ID and click “Forgot all passwords?”
Enter your Apple ID email, then click Next. Enter your Apple ID password, then click Next again.
Once verified, click “Exit to Recovery.”
In the top-right, open the menu bar, choose Utilities > Terminal.
In Terminal, type:
and press Return.
Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.
🔐 Note: If FileVault is enabled, you will need either your Apple ID or the FileVault recovery key to proceed.
